E06 test transmissions or variant

05 March 2014

Hello friends,

Today a new English-language station was heard in Europe that baffled us a bit...

It began earlier in the day on 10250kHz with what was believed to be XPA2. This was odd in itself, as that's an unexpected frequency and schedule for said station.

Then, at around 1850UTC, reports of a high-powered carrier and test counts began coming in on that same frequency in the voice of E06. Not long after that, the messages started coming in.

The call was 123 123 123 1 334,

Followed by a 4 digit ID, and message count of groups of 5. The message ends with 000 000.

At the time the Twente WebSDR had gone down, so by the time I was able to load up globaltuners.com and hit record, I pulled in two messages (from the receiver located in Greece).

The first began at ~2025UTC

Looking back through our chat log (I was AFK/R for most of this event) Webdevdan shouted about a station on 10.250Mhz around 19:48 UTC TotoCz started monitoring and logging what was being broadcast. The carrier came up and down a few times and the E06 voice came up repeating 456. It stopped and started a few times before carrying on. After several faltering starts, this E06 voiced station broadcast the two messages logged by SparkyXI above. They don't fit the usual message format as they have 2 additional start fields. 123 1 334
7011 26 compared to a standard E06 start 321 594 20. E06 also repeats each five figure group when broadcasting and this station didn't. So we can't class it as E06, and for now we are not quite sure what to call it. We will see if the station broadcasts again and what our friend at Enigma 2000 think. Update: It has been mentioned by Gwraspe and Danix111 that this is closer to E07a which has a start format: 815 1 33925 8434 67

UPDATE:

Dude1300 had logged the whole set:
