S06s is transmitted from central Ukraine. The language is
Russian. S06s follows the same format as S06 and other SVR
stations. However, it has very specific behavior, and is probably
ran by the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine (SZRU). For the
current times and frequencies, refer to our Number Station
Note that the zeroes at the end are always spaced.
Messages never contain less than five groups, and don't usually
exceed nine. If the transmission ID, the 3-figure group and the
amount of 5-figure groups were put together in a string, not a
single repeated digit would have been seen. The messages are
believed not to contain encrypted text, but codes from a code book
instead. Groups from other messages are frequently recycled, and
often even entire strings are the same as in messages sent months
and even years ago. Note that S06s's counterpart E17z makes use of the
exact same groups as S06s.
On one schedule, one message is sent for the first two weeks of
the month, then another one for the other two weeks. On the fifth
week, only null messages are transmitted. Rarely, an ID may start
sending null messages randomly, in case of which it will change its
frequencies, and transmit every 10 minutes five times,
rather than usual two.
S06s operates a large amount of schedules. Messages are repeated
ten minutes after the first sending, on either higher or lower
frequency. The transmissions are always automated, and frequently
over-modulated. They may start a few seconds early or late, due to
the time reference being out of sync.
S06s transmissions began in May 2004, and started using the
current voice in mid-2005. However, it went without specific ENIGMA
designation until 14 January 2010. Up until then, its transmissions
were logged as "S06 ending slow."
