The Reith Lectures 2011: Securing Freedom

Tuesday, September 6, 2011

Hey Shortwave fans

In the UK radio 4 produce a series of yearly lectures know as the Reith lectures. Presented by leaders of their field, each year chooses a certain relevant topic for debate.

This years set is called "Securing Freedom 2011" and is a series of lectures presented by the Burmese pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu and former Director-General of MI5 Baroness Manningham-Buller.

I have just listened to the third of the five lectures and had to share them with you, as they are rather connected to us, both being radio lectures and being presented by the former Director-General of MI5.

In this lecture the baroness reflects on 9/11 and the changing nature of terrorism since.

Well worth a listen! Seems there are a series of interesting bits of media produced over the years so I will be creating a  media page on the site to archive and collect, we had the rather interesting Radio 4 piece on Number stations bowen posted yesterday and other interesting media clips.

You can find the lectures on the BBC radio 4 website where the previous episodes are available as podcasts. Next episode will be Tuesday next week at 8am UTC on Radio 4 in the UK.

Ill add todays lecture download link to this blog post as soon as it is available and update the media page with the others once they are broadcast.
