Pip - 17 nights, 28 messages

08 November 2011

I have been monitoring S30's (Pip) night frequency since the 22nd of October and here is a short presentation of my findings so far. Broadcast times First of all, the seasonal schedule circulating online appears to be wrong, at least when it comes to the summer and autumn schedules. The first time I tuned to record Pip I noticed that it was already in progress, so to provide proper coverage I decided to wait another day and start my recording at midday UTC so I definitely wouldn't miss t...

2 buzzers???

27 October 2011

2 buzzers can it be? There has long been speculation that there are 2 or more transmitter sites for the buzzer. Conflicting reception reports, people saying the buzzer did not switch off when a message occured and other reports have often left us scratching our heads in explanation. Yesterday we heard a test count broadcast on the buzzers frequency while the buzzer was still running. This could be mixed at the broadcast source of course and offers no proof... until today! We can clearly ...

27 October 2011

Well it has been a busy day for us, interesting happenings on the buzzer, people being interviewed and xmwhales are just a few of the things we have been tracking today. However youll have to wait for all that as we intend to do another podcast very soon to discuss whats been going on. 23 October 2011

Details are a little sketchy right now, but inital reports say the wife was arrested at home and was "writing down a covert message sent by radio" at the time of her arrest! Russian Spies arrested in Germany We shall have to keep a close eye on this one, perhaps our German members can make a freedom of information request once the court case is over, would be great if we could identify the station they were using. ...

22 October 2011

Working my way through the internet as I do, I came across this bbc radio 4 program from April 4th 2010 called GCHQ: Cracking the code. As you probably know GCHQ is the UK's signals intelligence division so this is well worth a listen. GCHQ: Cracking the code BBC Radio 4 2010-04-04 17:00 (UK listeners only I am afraid, but hey you know what a proxy is right?) BBC summary: "The BBC's Security Correspondent Gordon Corera gains unprecedented access to Britain's ultra secret listening station...

A trip to povarovo and fun with jammers

21 October 2011

We have been in contact with bydunai who has been taking trips to povarovo and has filmed and photographed his experience. Its great to actually speak to someone who has been to the site and we hope to get him on the podcast soon. His livejournel post is well worth a read: A trip to povarovo and the UVB-76 site We heard a jammer we had not heard this afternoon, sounding like a number of car alarms all going at once. So for now were calling it the "woo-woo" jammer. Broadcasting on 12140 kHz...
