ATU-80 is a 5-bit telegraph code for the Arabic language. It is a derivative of ITA2.

Technical details

The following is a list of characters for both the ITA2 and the ATU-80 standards. The bits are ordered most significant bit first.

ATU-80 teleprinters are capable of switching to ITA2 and back using the following sequences of control signals:

  • From ATU-80 to ITA2: 11111 00000 11011 11111 01000
  • From ITA2 to ATU-80: 11111 11011 00000 11111 01000
