Music tests

Introduction

In mid 2025, a new unidentified music station was found on 9450khz, one of E25's former frequencies that was used until 2016. The origin appeared to be roughly the same geographical area as E25. Upon further monitoring, it was also discovered that the music tests followed a rough but more stable weekly schedule than standard E25, and the transmission window was the same but extended from 07:00 UTC to 12:00 UTC. The transmissions consisted of a specific music piece being played, followed sometimes by Windows 7 sounds. The music used featured mostly Egyptian artists, and more rarely, Lebanese artists. As such, pieces by Oum Kulthum are still used during these tests.

In early 2026, the transmissions were found again, this time using 6140khz (another E25 frequency, and the most recently used). The format remained unchanged, and extensive monitoring allowed to find a stable weekly schedule. Again, the transmission times were similar to those of E25 (07:00 UTC - 12:00 UTC), and the very low propagation of 6mhz during daytime allowed us to pinpoint the transmissions to somewhere in the Middle East, again the same area as E25. This station applies Egyptian DST adjustments, which were reinstated in 2023.

Schedule

The weekly schedule consists of transmission slots, spaced 15 minutes apart. Several transmissions take place every day except Friday. The music pieces appear to be tied to a specific slot, being always sent in a specific day at a specific time. Start times are not precise and are human-controlled, with some pieces starting early or late by a few minutes.

From last Friday of April to last Thursday of October, transmission times are shifted one hour earlier to follow Egyptian DST.
